After coming to the Bar, Alex has practiced in various areas of law with a focus upon crime and intentional torts. Alex has appeared in contested matters, pleas, bail applications and various other applications across all jurisdictions in NSW in the criminal and torts jurisdictions.

Alex is available to appear in all matters across the criminal calendar and has an excellent knowledge about mental health applications, sentencing practice and procedure and contested matters.

Alex also maintains a practice in contractual law and litigation, negligence and family provisions appearing before various courts and tribunals.

Some of the matters Alex has appeared in:

  • Flynn v PKK Mining Equipment Pty Ltd [2023] NSWCA 201 – Contractual dispute about share purchases and the construction of the agreement. The main issue of contention in Flynn was whether the primary judge erred in the construction of a share purchase agreement and whether that agreement there was a breach based on the incorrect contractual premises, and the meaning of business revenue. The appeal was granted.

  • JW v R [2022] NSWCCA 206 – Statutory interpretation and admissibility of evidence. The main issue of contention in JW was whether the exclusion of evidence was correctly determined in the trial, and whether a breach of s7 of the Surveillance Devices Act excluded the evidence. The other main issues were whether tendency evidence applied at the special hearing and in the hearing proper. The appeal was dismissed.

Prior to coming to the bar, Alex was a police officer for 13 years. Alex was involved in investigating and prosecuting criminal matters. Alex worked in uniform, performing duties as a part of drug detection teams before moving to the prosecutors.

Alex has received numerous awards and accolades for his ethical service and professionalism during this time, one being from a current District Court Judge.
